The Way of Kings - Brandon Sanderson

Updated: Jul 23, 2021

Score: 9/10

Coming from the modern Master of fantasy. The Way of Kings is the first book in his magnum opus, The Stormlight Archive.

The story is told through three points of view. A slaves, a warlords and a scholars. I'll be honest here, I didn't love all of these. Its not that they were bad (or not good), its just that I loved 'my' point of view. Every time the author dragged me kicking and screaming into someone else's head I had to struggle with myself not to skip those sections.

Given my noted bias I present to you, Kaladin Stormblessed:

Kaladin is a former soldier sold into slavery and eventually dragged to the front lines of a war he wants nothing to do with. Somehow in the most desperate of circumstances Kaladin manages to scrape together a slither of hope. He uses that hope to turn his doomed team of Bridgeman into something they've never been before, survivors.

If you love your fantasy novels grand in scope and thought, here lies the best in the business today. Enjoy!
